Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that alters the shape and size of the nose. Ethnic rhinoplasty is a specialized form of rhinoplasty tailored to the unique needs and cultural preferences of individuals from different ethnic backgrounds. Dr. Frank Lalezar offers personalized rhinoplasty to correct your aesthetic concerns while preserving the markers of your cultural identity.
Resist Eurocentric Standards Of Beauty
Until recently, a large number of rhinoplasties have been performed while conforming to traditional Western beauty standards, which often involves making the nose smaller and more narrow, with a defined bridge and a pointed tip. These beauty standards are heavily influenced by Eurocentric ideals and don’t necessarily align with the cultural preferences or facial features of individuals from other ethnicities.
Many individuals who undergo a standard nose job end up with a nose that looks unnatural or out of place. This can be especially problematic for individuals of color, who may feel pressure to conform to Western beauty standards and be dissatisfied with the results of a standard nose job. An ethnic rhinoplasty allows you to elevate your nose contours on your terms while respecting your cultural background.
What is Ethnic Rhinoplasty?
Ethnic rhinoplasty is a specialized form of rhinoplasty that considers the unique cultural preferences and facial features of individuals from different ethnicities. Rather than trying to conform the nose to Western beauty standards, the goal of ethnic rhinoplasty is to create a nose that looks natural and harmonious with the rest of the face while preserving the patient’s cultural features. Ultimately, ethnic rhinoplasty is a highly personalized nose job.
We Preserve Your Unique Cultural Features
The key difference between ethnic rhinoplasty and a standard nose job is the emphasis on preserving your cultural features. This is especially important for individuals who are proud of their cultural heritage and don’t want to lose their unique facial characteristics.
During the consultation, Dr. Lalezar will discuss your goals and preferences, pay close attention to the features you want to preserve, and create a customized surgical plan that ensures results that honor your cultural heritage.
The Goals of Ethnic Rhinoplasty:
- Resizing the nose to better balance with the rest of the face
- Altering the shape of the nose to better suit your facial features
- Straightening a crooked nose
- Improving the appearance of a large or bulbous nose
- Correcting a deviated septum to improve breathing
- Changing the shape or size of your nose without erasing cultural features
Dr. Lalezar’s Surgical Technique
The specific details of your rhinoplasty depend on your unique condition and goals. Dr. Lalezar may select various techniques to reshape the nose and create the desired appearance. He may perform a closed rhinoplasty, which involves making incisions inside the nostrils, or an open rhinoplasty, which involves making an incision on the columella (the strip of skin between the nostrils).
He will modify the underlying cartilage and bone and close the incisions, following which a splint is placed to stabilize your nose.
Your Recovery Journey
You will experience mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort during recovery. Most patients can return to normal daily activities within a week or two. However, it may take several weeks or even months for the swelling to fully subside and for the final results to become apparent. Strenuous workouts should be avoided for 6 to 8 weeks. Dr. Lalezar will also provide specific aftercare instructions to ensure optimal recovery — please follow them precisely.
